How Refuweegee is welcoming refugees to Glasgow with open arms.
A pack of essentials for refugees is a wonderful thing, but it’s even better when it comes with a handwritten letter that says: “We want you here. Welcome.”
“This wasn’t the plan. I didn’t set out to start a charity, I didn’t set out to quit my job. This was never the plan.”
There’s no regret in Selina Hales’ voice. The 35-year-old launched charity Refuweegee in late 2015 in a determined effort to welcome refugees to Glasgow, armed with the kindness she felt they were missing out on. Welcome packs . comprised of toiletries, warm clothing and other essentials are put together from donations and provided to forcibly displaced people upon arrival in Scotland’s largest city.
