Can you help the vulnerable this Christmas?

Brixton’s Mosaic Clubhouse is fundraising to support its vulnerable members through a difficult winter.

The pandemic and cold winter months mean calls to Mosaic not only about mental welfare, but also the need to access food and essential items, have increased.

Mosaic Clubhouse is a charity providing services to the community in Lambeth and surrounding boroughs.

It promotes positive mental health for people living with severe mental health problems, enabling them to regain the confidence and skills needed for productive and satisfying lives.

Poppy Reindorp, head of fundraising, said: “Due to the pandemic, food security has become a major issue amongst our members, with some going without food for multiple days at a time.

It started with food shortages and longer waits to access foodbanks in March, then affected members shielding, self-isolating and, of course, those struggling with money.”

To help people struggling during the first lockdown, supplies like tinned food and long-lasting products were donated from Mosaic’s café.

For the rest of the year, Mosaic used its Christmas party budget to pay for and deliver food parcels.

Now the charity is asking local businesses, offices and individuals to show the same generosity by donating to its fundraiser.

The pandemic meant Mosaic had to close its doors in March and began hosting all meetings and activity sessions online.

The charity encourages its members to stay connected and has helped individuals adapt to online services.

Members have also created an online radio show, a film club on Zoom and a writing group through emails.

Poppy said: “Our message to our members is while our building may be closed, our community is open.

Mosaic has been funded by Lambeth council and NHS Lambeth since it was founded in 1994.
