Cornwall Hugs Grenfell.

Holidays for heroes, holidays of hope.

Today’s Goodwork blog looks at cornwallhugsgrenfell.org and how it’s founder Esmé Page is helping provide much-needed holidays for the Grenfell Tower survivors.

I was overwhelmed by the wave of Cornish kindness that flooded back and so decided to put the idea into action.

Since then countless individuals and businesses have joined the vision, offering accommodation, activities and skills.

So far since June 20th 2017:

Over 250 Grenfell Tower survivors, close neighbours or firefighters have now come on holiday to Cornwall through the project. Over 20% of all tower survivors have come. Of these 250+ guests, 62 came on a set departure holiday to Falmouth in August 2017 and 45 to one in Porthtowan. All visitors are given free local bus travel thanks to a generous gift by FirstKernow. 250+ accommodation providers, from large operations to individual owners have pledged accommodation and 140+ businesses have pledged support. Now in 2018 over 75 guests have already been and many more are booked in for holidays. 150 more are waiting for us to place them.

“Imagine if we could put a Cornish holiday on the horizon of every Grenfell resident and firefighter family”

Every step of the way, this project has been supported. Encouragement and provision have come from all corners of the county and beyond. I am enormously grateful to those offering time and resource to support the vision. As we are seeing from guests’ testimonials, the experiences, natural beauty and bank of new memories each holiday offers are providing hope and resilience to help clients face and plan for the future. Please do check out our NEWS tab to catch up on what this works means to those affected by Grenfell Tower Fire.

Be part of the adventure.

This is an adventurous, fast-paced project. To scale up the project to meet the demand and to continue turning hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of pledges into well-crafted holidays for Grenfell survivors and firefighters we have specific needs. For specifics of what we currently need, please visit the Business Support page. We’re also seeking large accommodation providers to come forward and offer us 5-10 family units for set weeks in 2018 so that we can create more group holidays.

For specifics or to to pledge support (individual accommodation, group accommodation, business support or £), please return to the home page and use the appropriate button.

Finally, a huge thank you to the many volunteers who at different times since the start have supported us with skills, advice, time, experience and lots of encouragement. Without them, the work would not be possible.

Thank you for taking an interest in our work.
