Liz Havern is a radio and TV professional with more than 30 years of
broadcast and agency experience. She is a specialist in
promoting journalistic and communications best practice and an accredited
trainer and mediator with extensive client-facing skills. She has worked as
a journalist, editorial leader, trainer and senior manager nationally and
internationally for Thomson Reuters, the BBC and the independent and third
As Senior Output Editor for Reuters Television, Liz was responsible for
managing global television news coverage to the highest standards and for
placing stories and information to make the greatest impact. She pioneered
creative personal storytelling content as a global initiative to increase
diverse international broadcasters’ use of TV footage and information.
She devised and delivered training programmes to reinforce ethical best practice
in journalism and to improve the key communication skills needed to succeed
in a constantly evolving 21st century media environment.
Throughout her career, Liz has worked as a reporter, producer, newsreader,
presenter and in a variety of editorial and managerial roles with a strong
focus on quality, accountability and value. She has driven news agendas and
coverage and led high-performing news teams. As Business Development Manager
and trainer for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, she brokered partnerships
and managed relationships with media organisations, international
broadcasters, government departments and charities.
Liz is author of Reuters Television Operational Guidelines, and co-author of
the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s handbook “Making Video News”. She
frequently participates on Royal Television Society Awards judging panels
and is an accredited workplace mediator and an Associate of the Mediators
Institute of Ireland.
